Basboosah is a dessert made from Semolina flour. It tastes so sweet and the Semolina flour gives it a nice texture similar to cornbread. It is served with red tea, adani chai, or coffee. There are many different ways to make it. You can add coconut or chocolate to it. Also you can layers and stuff it with sweet cream. You also can decorate it with almonds or ground pistachio. In this recipe, I cooked Basboosah in the original simple way.  Soon I will post another recipe for Basboosah to show you another way of preparing this delicious dessert.

The batter of the Basboosah is thicker than most cake batters.2



  • 1 ½ stick of unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
  •  1 cup of powdered milk
  •  1 ½ cups of Semolina flour
  •  1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup Sugar Syrup


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Combine butter, sweetened milk, eggs, and powdered milk in a bowl and stir until well combined.
  3. Add Semolina flour and baking powder to the mix and stir. The mixture will be thicker than most cake batters.
  4. Pour it in a 9”x 13” glass pan
  5. Cook for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Pour half of the syrup on the Basboosah while it’s hot. Let it cool.  Then cut it into small squares or diamond shapes and pour the remaining syrup on it.


  • It is very important to have the syrup at room temperature before pouring it on the Basboosah.
