Lentil Soup (شوربة عدس)

Lentil soup is one of my kids’ favorite dishes. They like to eat it with white rice and chicken. I am glad that my kids like to eat lentils because it is high in protein, fiber and vitamin B.

There are many different ways to cook lentil. In this recipe, I make lentil soup with carrots.




  • 1 ½ cup red lentils
  • 3 big carrots, peeled and cut into small slices
  • 4 cups of water
  • 1 big clove of garlic
  • ½ white onion chopped
  • 1 tbsp. salted butter
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • ½ tsp. black pepper
  • 1 tbsp. curry powder
  • 1 tsp cumin


  1. Use the butter to sauté onion, carrots and garlic for 8 minutes.
  2. Rinse lentils then add it to the carrots.
  3. Add 3 cups of water, salt and spices.
  4. Cook the soup for 25 minutes on low heat, then puree the soup in the blender.
  5. Put the soup back in the pot.
  6. Add the remaining cup of water and let it cook on low heat for 10 minutes.
