Luqaimat Stuffed with Cheese (لقيمات بالجبن)

Luqaimat (tiny morsels) is one of the popular sweets in the Arab world. In fact, there are stores specialized in making only Luqaimat. People like to serve it with coffee or tea, especially during the month of Ramadan. There are many different ways to prepare it. Here, you will find an easy (and “cheesy”) and popular way of making it. Stay tuned; I will add other recipes for Luqaimat. For now, feel free to flavor it with cardamom, coconut or saffron.


  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 pack of dream whip
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tbsp. Yeast
  • Pinch of salt
  • ½ cup powdered milk
  • ¼ cup Mazola oil
  • Philadelphia cheese
  • 2 cups Sugar syrup at room temperature


  1. In a bowl, combine water, oil, sugar, vanilla, Salt, milk, and the yeast. Mix well.
  2. Add flour, dream whip and baking powder then knead to form a soft ball.
  3. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and set aside for 1 hour.
  4. Take a small piece from the dough smaller than an egg yolks. Flatten the dough using your fingers.
  5. Take a small amount of the cheese and place it in the middle of the dough then close the dough and shape it like a small ball. (Do the same with the rest of the dough)
  6. Preheat the oil in a large pot, add the balls and stir continually until golden brown.
  7. Remove the balls from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. Dip the balls in the sugar syrup for a few seconds then move them to the serving plate.
