Za’atar is a spice popular in the Middle East. It is made from ground thyme mixed with salt, sumac and sesame seeds. “Manakeesh Za’atar”  is one of the very popular Levantine Arabic food that uses za’atar mixed with olive oil. It has an aromatic taste which makes it good to flavor meat, chicken or serve it with cheese, olive oil and pita bread. Some Lebanese feed their children pita bread with za’ater for breakfast before they go to school because they believe that za’atar clears the mind and help their children be alert during exams.
